## The Sub-Saharan Network Challenge

Retail businesses in East Africa face recurring fiber cutouts and intermittent grid outages. When checkout counters depend on cloud APIs for barcode lookups, queues back up within 90 seconds.

### Offline-First Protocol

At Sumuda Technology, we designed the **SDA Retail POS** kernel using an offline-first architecture:

1. **Local SQLite WAL Cache**: Every terminal hosts a read-optimized catalog with sub-5ms lookup speeds.
2. **Cryptographic Transaction Queues**: Offline sales receive signed digital receipt tokens.
3. **Event-Driven Asynchronous Reconciliation**: When connectivity returns, batched delta sync reconciles inventory across the central ERP.

The offline reconciliation model saved our supermarket branch during the fiber cut last month. Unbelievably smooth transition without a single duplicate inventory deduction.

Thank you Ato Dawit! Our 2-phase commit protocol ensures zero duplicate receipts even during abrupt power cuts.
